1. Do not use Multiple Anti virus Applications or Software Firewalls.

* Anti virus: - If you have multiple anti virus applications installed on your laptop hardrive, please choose the one you prefer and uninstall all others.

I personally recommend NOD32(ESET) it’s already 3 in one, Anti virus, Anti Spyware, and of course Firewall

* Firewall: - Use only one software firewall. Running multiple software firewalls is unnecessary and using more than one software firewall on the same connection could cause issues with connectivity to the Internet (if you don’t configure the Firewall policies properly) or other unexpected behaviour including excessive use of system resources which will slow down overall laptop hardrive performance.
- NOD32(ESET) have this feature already. But if you want a stand alone Firewall I recommend “Commodo Firewall” its Fast and light.

Cleaning/Maintenance that every laptop user should know.

Recommended program to download and install:

NOD32 (ESET) - Antivirus, Anti Spyware, Firewall
CCleaner (Latest Version)
Tune-up Utilities

Laptops tend to bog down over time. Some simple maintenance every 2-4 weeks (depending on the laptop usage and programs installed) will only take 10-30 minutes. It can be performed at any knowledge level and will keep your laptop running smoothly. With these guide, and downloaded programs, you will see a noticeable improvement. This is fairly basic and something all laptop users should do.

ANTIVIRUS:

Install Nod32(ESET) and then scan for Viruses. You should have only one anti virus installed in your machine, there is no significant having multiple anti virus. It will only slows down your machine. AVG is not good by the way.

2. Remove programs you no longer use or knew about:

Over time, you may have installed games or utilities that you forgot about or no longer uses. Why waste the space? Go to your control panel, Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything you no longer uses. Occasionally you will find a Toolbar or other item you were unaware was there!

3. Cleaning your laptop hard drive for unnecessary files:

One of the biggest problems is hard drive usage. Your laptop hard drive has more moving parts than any other in your laptop and is constantly adding, deleting and re-organizing files. Because of this, you want to clean your laptop’s hard drive. A great tool for this is CCleaner:

4. Simply open CCleaner, and the cleaner section should be open.

Click run cleaner and wait. That’s it, your done!
It is a very safe tool and has never been damaged any of the hundreds of computers I have run it on.

5. Remove invalid registry entries:

Next up is the registry. Frankly, the registry is overrated as a speed tweak, in general, but it does get large and can contain many invalid references. The registry is not an area for even the average laptop user to be playing around in. The good news is CCleaner has a safe registry cleaner built in, so why not clean out old, invalid entries?

Click the issues button.
Click scan for issues.
Click fix selected issues.

That’s it, your done, a safe, fast registry clean.

You can also Use CCleaner As Uninstallion tool of any program you want to uninstall. Forget about Microsoft’s Add/Remove program it’s not a good idea and it leaves some registry issues you don’t want

After cleaning your machine with CCleaner. The nest step in laptop repair is Tune up Maintenance.

Simply click the “one click maintenance” and it will do the job it have also built in Defrag on it!

6. Defragment your hard drive

Now that you have removed all of this garbage, you have defragmented files all over your laptop hard drive. Reading and writing data on a heavily fragmented hard drive slows down because the time for the heads to move between fragments on the disk surface can be substantial. The files on your laptop hard drive now probably look like a box of tacks after I open them and toss them on the ground. Defragmenting your hard drive would be like the box of tacks still sealed. All neat and tidy and easy to get at.

Start-up items:

Here is a HUGE culprit on the average laptop repair. See all those icons in the lower right corner of your screen? Those are all being loaded on start-up, and those are not all of them either! If you’re wondering why you have to wait a minute to use your laptop after start-up, it is because all of those items are loading after Windows has started. They also used up memory just sitting there. Removal takes a bit more knowledge, or research, then the cleaning and installing, but you can do it!

First off, if you know what these items in the tray are and do not need them running, you can either right click an icon and look for options or a “run with Windows” option. Otherwise, you can double click any icon to open the program and look for options from there. Some are easy and common. Quick time, AOL and Real Player are good examples of items that do not need to be there.

CCleaner also has a start-up manager. Click tools, then start-up. You can delete any unneeded items from there. Be careful in, there is no backup, so either look up the program on Google or ask on forums if you want to know what an item is for. Because the start-up loads drivers and some programs you may need, be careful removing items you are unsure of.
